The "W" in NOW stands for Worldwide
How do you reach people in isolated or hostile parts of the world? One way is to tap into the ministries of people who can enter places we can't. We also have people whose skills and backgrounds make them welcome guests in certain host countries.
Zambia. Bethel individuals are generously sponsoring 300 orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia, Africa in a community suffering from HIV/AIDS, food and water shortages, and few trained pastors. Under NOW, this World Vision-led project will continue with more support for HIV/AIDS prevention and care for the afflicted. The goal: Foundational change that leads to long-term well being.
Asia. Dr. Ben Sia, Partners International Area Director for East Asia, is Bethel's link to China and other Communist-dominated countries. He and his workers are uniquely qualified to train other native Asian leaders who can influence believers and the unreached. There are also many short-term evangelism and discipleship opportunities for Bethelites.
Iraq. Another Bethel partner is Yousif Matty, a native Iraqi with one of the most bold and innovative ministries in the Muslim world. A former radio operator during the Gulf War, he now works in Kurdistan (northern Iraq) to start churches, Christian schools, centers for women, and employment ministries.
Mexico. The Operation World handbook calls six specific states in west-central Mexico the "Circle of Silence" with fewer than 2% born-again Christians. Many Tri-Cities Hispanics come from this region, which ties into "Our Community" outreach activities. Bethel is exploring ministry opportunities with native pastors, mission groups, and individual involvement.
